Taming My Mane

“Wow! Your hair looks so good like that; you should wear it like that more often!”

Until spending a day at the beach with me or catching me immediately after a shower, it is hard to know that my natural hair is full of frizzy curls. Personally, I consider my curls quite unruly and often use a blow-dryer and flat iron to straighten them out, especially if I plan on looking more polished. However, I do love my natural curls, I just usually reserve them for my summers in Bethany Beach, Delaware.

Thus, one of my Christmas presents has been a God-send for taming my mane. The Revlon One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer is currently my go-to tool.

In the past, I used a normal blow-dryer, which then left my hair looking like an frizzy afro before I would whip out my flat-iron and sometimes then a curling iron.  Yes, I know I use way too much heat on my hair. Now, with the Revlon One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer, I barely need to reach for my flat-iron. To use my new hair dryer brush, I separate my hair off and dry it section by section, along with a heat protectant spray. One of my favorite things about the Revlon tool is that it allows me to give myself a blow-out with the rounded brush, rather than merely drying my hair.

If you have unruly hair or have been dying to figure out a simple way to do an at-home blowout, the Revlon One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer (or the similar products all over Amazon) will be your best friend. It’s a must buy!

Bigger is Better?

Bold, colorful and unique statement earrings have become prominent in recent years, but it seems as though the accessory is only growing— both in popularity and physical size. Brands such as Bauble Bar, Mignonne Gavigan, J. Crew, Kendra Scott, Sachin & Babi, Sheila Fajl (shop via my link for 10% off) and Lisi Lerch make the trend accessible for varying budgets and tastes. The best part of statement earrings? The fact that they can add a level of fun to any ensemble. Black turtleneck? Add a bold red lip and red tassel earrings! White sundress? Grab your blue geometric earrings!

For this season, we can only expect statement earrings to become bigger and better! Nieves (2018) of Who What Wear adds, “of course, statement earrings never quite left, but in 2019, we can expect new and exciting jewelry trends that make an impression, exploring new, fun colors, shapes.” Additionally, Bennett (2018) of InStyle describes earrings seen on the runway as “daring, with chunky, oversize hoops and long, dangling styles that dropped below the shoulders.”

With the abundance and colors, styles, shapes, sizes and materials, statement earrings can certainly find a fit in anyone’s jewelry box. Additionally, their variety and adaptability make them appropriate for numerous occasions— a girls’ night out, a cocktail party, a football game or even the office.

Whether you are a statement earring addict like myself or have yet to try the trend, here a few tips on finding the right pair.

  1. Consider the material and its weight. If you have sensitive ears, opt for a pair made of thread rather then beads, as they can really weigh your ears down and make them hard to wear for long periods of time.
  2. Find your color. Is their a specific pop of color you gravitate towards? Do you cheer for a particular sports team that may sway your color decision? Are you more of a neutrals fan or do you love boldness? Take time to think about what color earrings are best suited for your lifestyle.
  3. Start with the basics. For your first pair of statement earrings consider buying a basic pair of thread tassel earrings for a moderate price. If you like them, explore different styles at higher price points, as you see fit.

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but right now, it is all about what is on your ears.

2019: The Year of the Animal

According to the Chinese zodiac, 2019 will be the year of the pig (Birkenbuel, 2018). However, within fashion, I believe that 2019 will be the year of the animal, no matter the specific breed or species. With various animals prints abundant on retail’s racks, it is hard to deny that leopard print, cow hides, snakeskin and other animalistic motifs will reach peak popularity this year.

Headlines deeming animal print as the current trend have been published for the last several years, but 2019 marks the true saturation in the marketplace. In fact, “The controversial print has essentially been embraced as 2019’s equivalent to a neutral: Think leopard print dressed worn with oversized khaki jackets, tiger print coats worn over white tailored separates and a pop of snakeskin in the form or a boot or handbag” (O’Neill, 2018).

In past years, animal print has been reserved for more luxurious occasions, but now, the trend is found in street style and even in athleisure. Additionally, the loud patterns and are not only reserved for faux fur coats, but are now utilized in jewelry, shoes, belts, leggings, scarfs, trousers and the list goes on. While the print looks fabulous on all bodies, it also can play a role in your home— from leopard pillows, faux cow hide rugs and tiger striped throw blankets.

Ready to take a walk on the wild side? Log onto to favorite online shopping platform or visit your nearest boutique; animal print should not be hard to find!
