Shop ‘Til You Drop in Downtown Athens

What’s great about being a college student? Having only one class on Thursday. What’s not so great about being a college student? Having no money. With an empty schedule and an even emptier wallet, I spent the day in downtown Athens, participating in my favorite activity- shopping!!!

Athens, Georgia, a quaint college town, is home to several adorable boutiques and I took to the streets to check them out. Red Dress Boutique, a popular online boutique, has a great selection in their Athens location. Pitaya mixes trendy and cute, while keeping everything affordable. Flirt has a plethora of red and black attire for UGA gamedays, as well as a fabulous sale rack. Encore, a bit on the more expensive end, carries the latest trends and may occasionally be worth the splurge. At Fab’rik, the store itself is as charming as the clothing. My favorite part about this upscale boutique is the wide variety of fun, contemporary necklaces (see photo). The Impeccable Pig houses a variety of casual dresses, tops, and bottoms in addition to everyday t-shirts and shorts. The Cloister Collection, a Lilly Pulitzer via store, stocks all the latest and greatest items from our favorite Palm Beach designer. My new favorite boutique, American Threads, has a variety of cool, boho fashions and even stocks Mumu in their store. I hit the jackpot at American Threads and splurged on a backless, navy and cream tie-dye romper that I adore. I guess my wallet wasn’t so empty, after all!

The fashionista still has a plethora of shops and boutiques to explore, but Athens certainly never fails to disappoint me or my wallet!

The Fashionista is Relocating

Athens, Georgia: here I come! My time in the Washington, DC area has come to a close, and in less than 12 hours I will be in the car, en route to the next chapter of my life. Beginning my freshmen year at the University of Georgia, I plan for a memorable, challenging, fun four years.

Just because the fashionista is relocating does not mean she will become absent. You will still be seeing frequent Instagrams at @fashionista_mkd and weekly blog posts! While earning my degree in Fashion Merchanising and enjoying my college years, I hope to still portray my commentary, obsessions, and inspirations in the fashion world!

Project Runway: Mood, Mayhem & Making It Work

Thursday night television just got way more enjoyable; Project Runway is back and better than ever! The season 14 premiere aired last night, and I cannot wait to see what this season has in store. Heidi Klum looks better than ever, Nina Garcia still packs the punches, Zac Posen continues to bring enthusiasm and positivity, and Tim Gunn, well, it still making it work.

Like every Project Runway season, sixteen designers travel to New York City for a season of surprises, scissors, satin, and sass! This season’s designers include;

You can watch the first episode online at Lifetime’s website, but here are last night’s highlights! The designers arrived at Madison Square Garden and met Heidi and Tim who instructed them to collected four pieces of Mood fabric, scattered across the arena, in under three minutes. Before we see how each designer was able to “make it work,” let’s take a look at who each designer truly is (according to me).

Most fun? Ashley Nell Tipton. Hands down. She describes herself as “fun, funky, and fat” and her fabulous, colorful designs match her exuberant personality.

Most annoying? Merline Labissiere. Girl, take it down a notch. I was not even in the work room with you, and I wanted to slap a piece of duct tape across your mouth. You’re an amazing designer, but cool it with the commentary.

Most hilarious? Hanmiao Yung. The adorable designer deemed that she was “made in China” and loves to be called pistachio, because it translates to happy nut in Chinese.

Most conceited? We have a tie! Blake Patterson vs. Joseph Charles Poli. Patterson claimed that he designs for “people that can afford him” and that he has no weaknesses. Poli, on the other hand, likes to see small people “put in their place.” Gentleman, I hope you can descend from your elevated, arrogant clouds this season.

Most conflict? Lindesy Creel. In her first confessional she claimed, “Some people find me charming, some people find me intimidating, some people just really don’t like me at all. I don’t work well with others.” I think we know who the Season 14 villain will be.

Most determined? Edmond Newton. Having tried out for Project Runway ever since the first episode and finally making it fourteen seasons later, he will certainly go above and beyond to “make it work.”

My favorite? Amanda Perna. Her bubbly personality and bright, fun designs make her my fav all-around designer this season!

Spoiler alert! Last night episode, “Mad Dash Mayhem,” did crown both a looser and winner. Check out the best and worst (and my favorite) looks from the August 6th episode.

Winner? Ashley Nell Tipton.

Department Stores & Personalities

Ever think your favorite luxury department store could reveal so much about your character? Well, Town & Country Magazine dared to analyze individual’s personalities based on where they prefer to saunter into for a much needed shopping spree.  To read the full article, click here.

Whether your favorite place to drop some dollars is Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Barney’s New York, Saks Fifth Avenue or Bloomingdale’s, that place can say a lot about you. Personally, I find myself spilt between two of the luxury stores- Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman. I shop at Nordstrom on a very regular basis, and it’s the one store at the mall that I know I will always find a fabulous piece. Additionally, whenever, I am visiting NYC, I always squeeze in a few hours to peruse the beautiful wings of Bergdorf Goodman. Therefore, I guess I am partly “thoughtful and the ultimate gift giver” and partly “the ultimate hostess with unparalleled taste.”

Thank goodness for a variety of department stores and we are even more blessed to have so many unique personalities in our midst!
